Barbara Milicent Roberts, aka Barbie. Born March 1959, she is one of the most coveted on Earth. Worldwide, two Barbie dolls are purchased every second; and each typical American girl owns an average of eight Barbie dolls. [1]
As a marketing/cultural icon, an object of desire, Barbie is the subject of feminist and social critiques, and childhood/pre-teen development investigations. She is often thought to represent who little girls are and who they should want to be when they grow up. It is not coincidental that Barbie is also frequently used by artists, and transformed into works of art that defines cultures and civilizations.

They looking back...
On Paradise, so late their happy seat,
Waved over by that flaming brand, the gate
Whith dreadful faces thronged and fiery arms:
Some natural tears they dropped, but wiped them soon;
The world was all before them, where to choose
